Traveling Wave Characteristics

4. Wave speed.
velocity = wavelength/period
remember: period = 1/frequency ... so velocity = (wavelength)(frequency)
Before our graphs represent vertical displacement vs time. (Crest to Crest = PERIOD)
Now we get graphs of vertical displacement vs horizontal displacement. (Crest to Crest = WAVELENGTH)
5. Wavefronts and Rays. Distance between subsequent wavefronts is the wavelength. Rays represent the direction the wavefronts travel. Rays are always drawn perpindicular to the wavefronts.
