1.  Based on the Conservation of Electric Charge: Junction Rule.  At any junction point, the sum of all currents entering the junction must equal the sum of all currents leaving the junction.

2. Based on the Conservation of Electric Energy: Loop Rule.  The sum of the changes in potential around any closed path of a circuit must be zero.

Note:  Negative terminal is low potential (zero volts) and the positive terminal is the maximum potential.  The current loses potential as it travels around the circuit.
